Tribute to Janice Morgan
My Wonderful Friend Jan
Michael
22 January 2026
It was with heartfelt sadness to learn that Jan, a dear and true friend, is no longer with us.
I first met Jan in the early 1970s in Montreal where we spent many happy and fun fulled times with friends over lunches and dinners and skiing in the winter.
Jan moved to Ottawa as did I in the 1980s and we saw each other on a regular basis until she returned to the UK. We remained in touch through ’snail mail’ and then e-mail.
Jan was such an easy and outgoing person that any time spent with her was a pleasure and she had a remarkable knack of keeping us entralled while she recountered events bringing smiles to
our faces with the ‘punch lines’.
Maybe, I can bring smiles to your faces with these ‘Jan’ episodes.
When at Abbott Labs in Montreal, all managers received a Memo advising that they had tidy their desks and offices and, when completed, sign and return the Memo.
A disastrous fire destroyed the buiding but, as Jan and others had kept the Memos, they duly signed and returned them.
When she worked for the London Rubber Company, she returned to Canada with product samples and her luggage was inspeced by Customs. There was quite a number of samples and the Customs Officer
looked at her and said ‘Are you hoping to have a good time while you are here?’.
Those with her will never forget her face when we were in the ski chalet and Jan rushed in to tell us that a ski instructer had ‘streaked completely naked’ down the ski hill!
Also, when we were at the 3 day event at the 1976 Olympics, we were on a narrow path through a wood when we came face to face with the Queen and her party.
Jan was stunned when the Queen and her party stepped aside and let us pass first.
There are other great memories of Jan and the one that touches me the most is that when I changed my lifestyle.
The wonderful loving and caring person that Jan was, hugged me close and said
“Mike, I will always be your friend : you are who you are and have always been and not what you
are”.
With Sincere Condolences to the family.
Rest in Peace My Friend and with the Knowledge that we will never ever forget you.
